Emily Hallock, Community Driver Coordinator for The MOOver!, recently spoke with members of the Springfield Vermont Rotary Club about the organization’s search for community volunteer drivers.
The MOOver! works with community and volunteer drivers to provide rides for people in need. Volunteer drivers help local residents get to medical appointments, grocery stores, employment, essential services, and other destinations.
During her presentation, Hallock explained that volunteers can drive as little or as much as they wish, depending on their availability. Community drivers are reimbursed at the current General Services Administration mileage rate of 72.5 cents per mile, which is not considered taxable income.
Community drivers must have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a good driving record. Most trips are for people who need transportation to medical appointments. By volunteering, drivers can provide dependable transportation while gaining the satisfaction of knowing they are making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
“Community volunteer drivers provide more than transportation,” Hallock said. “They offer reliability, connection, and a helping hand to people who may otherwise have difficulty reaching the places and services they need.”
