Springfield Parks & Recreation Director Adam Middleton recently updated members of the Springfield Rotary Club on the department’s programs, facilities and plans for the future.
Middleton highlighted the variety of recreational opportunities available to Springfield residents, including programs for children and youth. Among the department’s newest offerings this fall is a cheerleading program, adding another option for young people to participate in organized recreation.
Youth sports remain a significant part of the department’s activities. Middleton said approximately 150 to 200 young people participate in Springfield’s sports programs, demonstrating the continued demand for recreational opportunities in the community.
The Parks & Recreation facilities also see significant use throughout the year. During the winter months, approximately 150 to 200 people pass through the doors of the recreation building, reflecting the importance of the facility as a community resource.
Looking ahead, Middleton said he hopes to develop a master plan for Springfield Parks & Recreation. The goal would be to take a comprehensive look at the community’s recreational needs and determine how programs, facilities and resources can best serve Springfield residents in the years ahead.
A master plan could help the department identify priorities for facility improvements, future programming and other investments while ensuring that Parks & Recreation continues to meet the changing needs of the community.
