Trex Plastics Challenge Update
The third bench is being installed in the Union Park Neighborhood. We collected 397 pounds of plastic film towards our goal of another 500 pounds of plastic film. To date, 2.013 pounds of plastic film have been removed from the waste stream, delivered to Shaw's, and heading to Trex for recycling. Volunteers are needed to help sort the plastic film at the library. If you can volunteer some time, contact Sue Dowdell.

PROGRAM:
Springfield Fire Chief Paul Stagner came to talk about the recent flooding and the work of the Urban Search And Rescue teams from North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Vermont that worked to keep everyone safe. Springfield was lucky to sustain minimal flooding thanks to the North Springfield Dam. Only a part of North Springfield was evacuated and a small part had some flooding. Because of how protected Springfield is from flooding and the numerous ways out of town, it is an ideal place for the USAR teams to stage. To be proactive for future flooding make sure to have flashlights, batteries, canned food, and water available in your house. The Fire Department has seen a steady increase in call volume year to year, somewhat attributed to the increase in mental health calls EMS has been receiving. They are fully staffed but have noticed a decrease in applicants when positions do open.
Kudos to Taylor Drinker for stepping up to supply the notes for this meeting!
