ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
• Reminder: please fill out the luncheon request form by 3 pm, Monday,
• Summer Backpack Food Program is now in its fourth week.  84 bags have been given out. For more info, contact Karen.
• The club is sponsoring the Chester Music Series. Butterflies are be sold at the 5-week Thursday-night series.
• Butterflies will be sold at the Comtu Music Series in August.  Butterflies will be released on 8/23. If you can volunteer, contact Emma. To order Butterflies, contact Karen
• Please submit your committee preferences to President Deb.
• Cover Home Repair has a project scheduled in Springfield on July 19 and 20. For more info, contact Conor Teal 
• President Deb has began making purchases for our District Grant to supply Springfield and Chester preschools with rain suits and crocs.
•The District July newsletter has been posted. Please let Marty know if you did not receive it. 
•Last year, the club participated in a fundraising effort to develop a website for the BEAR PROJECT, a literacy and life outreach program serving the youth and families of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  The website is now up and running. Click here to view the website.
 
Trex Plastics Challenge Update
 
We have collected 903 pounds of plastic film towards our goal of 1000 pounds of plastic film for an eighth recycled bench that is earmarked for the Library. Since February of 2023, 6,045 pounds of plastic film (over 3 tons!) have been removed from the waste stream, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket and heading to Trex Company for recycling. You can bring your plastic to the Springfield Town Library. We need more volunteers to help sort at the Library, please contact Sue Dowdell.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

President Deb welcomed all to the July 16, 2024 club meeting held at Maebelline's Restaurant. For the thought of the day, she offered this quote by Theodore Roosevelt: “Believe you can and you're halfway there."

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

This member's clue was: "Played rugby in college"  — no one fessed up.

HAPPY EVENTS: 

  • Deb: Had an enjoyable convention in Atlanta with 45,000 other financial advisors.

  • Deb: Seeing Hudsen at today's meeting.

  • Deb: Getting ready to schedule a fireside chat with Jeff.

  • Ed: Good time with grandkids;  dinner, movie, and playground.

  • Jeff: Attending a family reunion

  • Jeff: Carrie is expecting in January.

  • Jeff: Lisa won a Fulbright Award.

  • Sue: First camping trip of the year is under her belt.

RAFFLE:

The weekly prize of $6 was won by President Deb. The big pot grew to $88.

PROGRAM:

 
Jeff will be chairing the 70th Annual Penny Sale on October 19, 2024.  Last year's penny sale was the club's biggest; netting over $16K. We will begin selling raffle tickets in the next two months, as well as soliciting 300 prizes.  To learn about last year's event, click here. If you have any questions, contact Jeff.
