• Summer Backpack Food Program will be done again this year.  For more info, contact Karen.
• The club will be sponsoring the Chester Music Series in July. Butterflies will be sold at the 5-week series starting on 7/11
• Butterflies will be sold at the Springfield Street Festival on 7/13, as well as the the Comtu Music Series in August.  Butterflies will be released on 8/23.
• Invoices for 2024-25 have been emailed. If you have any questions, contact Marty.
• The Chamber's Hackers Golf Tournament will take place on 7/11.
 
Trex Plastics Challenge Update
 
We have ordered the seventh bench that is going to Springfield Library. We have collected 334 pounds of plastic film towards our goal of 1000 pounds of plastic film for an eighth recycled bench. Since February of 2023, 5,476 pounds of plastic film (over 2-1/2 tons!) have been removed from the waste stream, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling. The Claremont-Sugar River Rotary Club has collected its first 1000 pounds of plastic film We need more volunteers to help sort at the Library, please contact Sue Dowdell.

President Emma welcomed all to the June 11, 2024 club meeting held at Maebelline's Restaurant. For the thought of the day, Emma offered this quote by Catherine Pulsifer: “If the world had more people like you it would be a better place. You do make a difference.”

HAPPY EVENTS: 

  • Emma: Nice visit with her dad.

  • Emma: Fun wedding festivities for her cousin

  • Carol: Thwarted a squirrel from stealing her bird food by putting vaseline on the hook.

  • Bill: Taken up the electric bass guitar.

  • Karen: Attended her last board meeting.

  • Sue Dana: Emma and her father are recovering from their respective surgeries.

  • Chris: Dad retired from Rotary after 39 years.

  • Deb: Had a productive meeting with her portfolio manager.

  • Deb: Helped a girlfriend move.

  • Ed G: His sister retired from teaching music for 40 years.

  • Jeff: Welcome Chester Rotarians to the club,

  • Alan: Happy about all the upcoming Rotary events.

RAFFLE:

The weekly prize of $7 was won by Deb. The big pot grew to $65.

PROGRAM:

 
Chris Meyer, one of the founders of Chester Helping Hands, talked about his experience helping restaurants during the pandemic.  Chester Helping Hands is a non-profit organization created to provide food assistance and spread kindness to our neighbors in the greater Chester area of Vermont. The need for his organization continues today. To learn more, click here.
