ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 
 
• The April Diaper Drive collected over 1200 diapers. 
 
• SAVE THE DATE: Rotary District 7870 Conference will be held on Sat. May 30 in Keene. Check the District Newsletter for more info. 
 
• Food Drive will take place on 5/16. To volunteer, contact Sue.
 
TREX PLASTIC CHALLENGE UPDATE
 

In the month of April we collected 338 pounds of plastic film To date, 14,804  pounds of plastic film (over 7 tons!) have been removed from the waste stream since we started this project in February of 2023, delivered to Shaw’s Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling.  

Please continue to bring your plastic film to the Springfield Town Library.

NOTE: We need volunteers to help sort the plastic at the Library. For more info, contact Alan.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

President Sue welcomed all to the May 5, 2026 club meeting held at the Springfield Area Parent Child Training Center.  For the thought of the day, she offered this quote attributed to Winston Churchill: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

BOWL OF LIFE: (members put three things about themselves on paper and place into a bowl and then we try to identify the member). 

"I am part cow - No one fessed up.

HAPPY EVENTS: 

  • Sue: Attended Edgar May Kentucky Derby fundraiser
  • Sue: Jason has been transferred to Rutland.
  • Sue: Tom's here today
  • Marty: Deb Cox displayed remarkable dishwashing skills at the Governor's lunch.
  • Alan: Governor's lunch.
  • Jeff: Attended Red Sox game with his uncle.
  • Jeff: Planning cruise with Lisa to ABC Islands.
  • Jeff: His son John is getting married in KY in July.
  • Tom: His grandson threw a double play ball from center field
  • Ashley: Quinn is turning 12 and asked her friends to donate 12 cans of food for homeless folk in Brattleboro.
  • Ashley: Had to buy a new car after being hit by a deer.
  • Ashley: Doesn't have to travel for any of Quinn's basketball games this weekend so she can enjoy Mothers Day.
  • Deb: Going to Atlanta for Women of Primerica conference.
  • Deb: Her hat won an award at Edgar May Kentucky Derby fundraiser.
  • Deb: Governor's lunch
  • Ed G: Heading to Coral Gables to attend his nephew's graduation from U of Miami in music.

RAFFLE

The weekly prize of $6 was won by Alan who gave it back to club. The big raffle grows to $215 and only 13 cards left.

PROGRAM:

Club Assembly
 
 

1. Scholarship Committee: There were few applicants this year. 

2. This year's District Grant was used to support Senior Solutions' Memory Cafe. You can read about it in a recent article on Vermont Public Radio by clicking here.  

3. Rotary Trailer: We are getting ready to bring our trailer from Chester to Springfield. Once we get it cleaned up, we will be able to use it at events like the Chester Fall Festival or Springfield Apple Festival.

4. Butterfly Sales: We are looking at different venues to sell butterflies since there will not be Comtu Concerts. 

5. Changing of the Gavel: We are looking into holding the event again at Vermont Vines possibly on July 9

This bulletin attempts to give a gist of the meeting.  However, it is always better to attend.  If you have any complaints about the contents of this bulletin...
