ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 
• Ed McQuaide is on the mend and is home. 
• Raffle tickets and posters for the 2026 Penny Sale are available. For more info, contact Jeff.
• Butterfly Release on August 28, 2026.  Please turn in the forms and money for any butterflies that you’ve sold.  For more info, click here. 
•We will be having a joint social meeting with the Charlestown Club in the evening on Thursday, October 1 at Fort #4 in Charlestown.  This will be a great opportunity to get to know a neighboring club and tour Fort #4.  
 
TREX PLASTIC CHALLENGE UPDATE
 
This past two weeks, we collected 202 pounds of plastic film To date, 15,947 pounds of plastic film (over 7.5 tons!) have been removed from the waste stream since we started this project in February of 2023, delivered to Shaw’s Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling. Club’s district grant for the purchase of 4 benches has been approved. Please continue to bring your plastic film to the Springfield Town Library.
 
NOTE: We need volunteers to help sort the plastic at the Library. For more info, contact Alan.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

President Jeff welcomed all to the August 18, 2026 club meeting held at the Springfield Area Parent Child Training Center.  For the thought of the day, he offered this quote attributed to Martin Luther King,"Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.
You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" to serve. You don't have to know the Second Theory of Thermal Dynamics in Physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love, and you can be that servant."

The weekly prize of $11 was won by John. The big raffle grows to $308 and only 3 cards left.

Ruth Clough, District Governor for Rotary District 7870, shared an update on Rotary’s work throughout southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire and the connections between local clubs and Rotary International.
 
Clough discussed the role of Rotary District 7870, which brings together Rotary clubs across the region, and how local service efforts are connected to Rotary International’s global network of more than 1.4 million members.
 
Her presentation highlighted the importance of collaboration among Rotary clubs and the many ways members can make an impact both locally and around the world.
 
“Rotary gives us the opportunity to make a difference right here in our own communities while being part of something much larger,” Clough said. “Our local projects are connected to a worldwide network of people who share a commitment to service.”
 
Clough also discussed opportunities for clubs within District 7870 to work together on service projects and strengthen connections throughout the district.
 
The Springfield Rotary Club meets Tuesdays at noon at the SAPCC Workforce Development & Training Center. Guests and prospective members are always welcome. Anyone interested in learning more about the Springfield Rotary Club is encouraged to visit the club’s website by clicking here.
