ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 
• Penny Sale: We are recording the prizes for the booklet tomorrow. The Booster Club will be providing food at the event.  For more info, contact Jeff.
 
•The Apple Fest is October 10. We will be providing help with directing parking. For more info, contact Jeff.
 
• Our golf team comprised of Rod, Carol, Emma, and Ed B finished in the top 9 at the District Golf Tournament. Everyone had a good time and raised money for Amigos de Honduras
 
• At today's Board meeting, we voted to donate $1000 to Shelter Box USA to help Nepal, $250 to Project Action, and $250 to SEVCA.
 
TREX PLASTIC CHALLENGE UPDATE
 
Bench #17 has been donated to the Springfield VFW. Bench #18 has been ordered to be given to Elm Hill School. in September, we collected 268 pounds of plastic film. To date, 16,356 pounds of plastic film (over 8 tons or the equivalent of 12 dairy cows) have been removed from the waste stream since this project started in February of 2023, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling. Please continue to bring your plastic film to the Springfield Town Library.
 
NOTE: We need volunteers to help sort the plastic at the Library. For more info, contact Alan.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

President Jeff welcomed all to the October 6, 2026 club meeting held at the Springfield Area Parent Child Training Center. For the thought of the day, he offered this quote attributed to Nelson Mandela,: "“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”

The weekly prize of $6, was won by Marty who returned it to the club. The grand prize is now $10 with 50 cards. 

PROGRAM:

 
Josh Davis, executive director of Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) and Jon Megas-Russell, SEVCA’s Development and Communications Director spoke about the organization’s work helping individuals and families throughout southeastern Vermont achieve greater stability and self-sufficiency.
 
Davis described SEVCA’s programs and services, which address a range of community needs, including housing, energy assistance, food security, transportation, financial stability and other resources designed to help individuals and families meet basic needs and build greater economic security.
 
SEVCA is a nonprofit community action agency serving Windham and Windsor counties. Through direct services, community partnerships and advocacy, the organization works with individuals and families facing economic challenges and connects them with resources and opportunities.
 
During his presentation, Davis also discussed some of the challenges facing residents and the importance of partnerships among nonprofit organizations, businesses, community groups and volunteers.
 
Megas-Russell gave out some statistics about SEVCA’s Springfield impact of services in FY25. SEVCA served a total of 298 unduplicated households of 583 in Springfield between October 2024 and the end of September 2025. SEVCA’s Springfield impact included $282,000 in no-cost weatherization services, $35, 404 in emergency heating, $2,875 in emergency home repairs, $71,798 in fuel & utility assistance, $46,076 in housing assistance, and $2,185 in thrift vouchers to obtain necessary household goods or clothing.
 
“The combined value of services provided to residents in the Town of Springfield exceeded $447,154,” Megas-Russell said.

At the conclusion of the presentation, Springfield Rotary Club President Jeff Mobus presented Josh Davis with a check for $250.
