• The club will be sponsoring the Chester Music Series in July. Butterflies will be sold at the 5-week series starting on 7/11.
• Butterflies will be sold at the Springfield Street Festival on 7/13, as well as the the Comtu Music Series in August. Butterflies will be released on 8/23. If you can volunteer, contact Emma.

Trex Plastics Challenge Update
We have collected 816 pounds of plastic film towards our goal of 1000 pounds of plastic film for an eighth recycled bench that is also earmarked for the Library. Since February of 2023, 5,958 pounds of plastic film (over 2-3/4 tons!) have been removed from the waste stream, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket and heading to Trex Company for recycling. You can bring your plastic to the Springfield Town Library. We need more volunteers to help sort at the Library, please contact Sue Dowdell.

President-Elect Sue welcomed all to the July 9, 2024 club meeting held at Maebelline's Restaurant. For the thought of the day, Sue offered this quote by Rosa Parks: “To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. We will fail when we fail to try.”
BOWL OF LIFE: (members put three things about themselves on paper and place into a bowl and then we try to identify the member)

RAFFLE:
The weekly prize of $6 was won by Bill B, who returned the money to the club. The big pot grew to $82.
PROGRAM:
Rotarian Bill Bridgeford, the senior recruiter for Peace Corps in Vermont, gave an overview of the Peace Corps. Bridgeford began his Peace Corps career as a volunteer in 2016, just a few months before his sixtieth birthday. His first assignment was North Macedonia. Peace Corps deploys volunteers in over 60 countries and those volunteers work within six different sectors: agriculture, environment, community economic development, health, education, and youth in development. The Peace Corps is a program that was founded in 1961 with the goal of helping countries interested in meeting their need for trained people, promoting a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served, and help to promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. Bridgeford’s message was “Do you have dreams of traveling? Do you strive to better the world or simply feel best when helping others? Look no further than the Peace Corps, an organization dedicated to helping communities across the globe.” To become a Peace Corps volunteer, you must apply online at www.peacecorps.gov, but Bridgeford encourages everyone interested in applying to contact him by clicking here.
