ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
• "Rotary Reads" will take place at Union School on Feb. 16. For more info, contact Jeff.
• Anyone interested in helping with the Diaper Drive in April should contact President Emma.
• Annual Lunch with the Governor will take place on Mon. Feb. 26 at RVTC. Details to follow.
 
Trex Plastics Challenge Update
 
The fifth bench has been assembled and is still waiting to be picked up by Springfield On The Move for the bus stop on Main Street. We have collected 512 pounds of plastic film towards the 1000 pounds needed for our sixth bench. So far, 3,642 pounds of plastic film has been removed from the waste stream, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling. <NOTE: 2000 pounds = 1 TON>. Michelle and Tim are helping to sort at Library. We desperately need more volunteers to help sort at the Library, please contact Sue Dowdell.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

President-elect Deb welcomed all to the February 13, 2024 club meeting held at Maebelline's Restaurant. For the thought of the day, Deb offered this quote by Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” 

BOWL OF LIFE: (members put three things about themselves on paper and place into a bowl and then we try to identify the member) 

This member was a Mardi Gras Reveler... Bob Adcock.

HAPPY EVENTS: 

  • Alan: always a pleasure to be here.

  • Deb: Moving her office in same building.

  • Deb: Sue Dana has agreed to president-elect, Patty has agreed to come onto board, and Michelle has agreed to serve at treasurer once she is inducted.

  • Ed G.: Oldest grandson celebrated his 9th birthday,

  • Sue D.: Senior Solutions was named at one of the best places to work in Vermont.

  • Taylor: Fun visit with her sister.

  • Peter: Pleasure to be back.

  • Jeff: Carrie was in a car accident but the only thing damaged was the car.

  • Karen: Great presentation on school budget

  • Karen Heading to South Carolina.

  • Carol: Buddy and his wife Deanna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

  • Peter: Granddaughter turned 15 and received High Honors.

RAFFLE:

The weekly prize of $6 was won by Deb. The big pot grew to $12.

PROGRAM:

 
Springfield School Chief Financial Officer Rick Pembroke and School Superintendent Sheri Nichols, gave an overview of the proposed FY25 school budget that will be voted on at Town Meeting. The total proposed budget is $39,839,625. The state will cover $30,340,957.There will be two articles to allocate FY23 surplus funds totaling $1.6 M so that the money stays in Springfield. Town meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 5th. 
 
This bulletin attempts to give a gist of the meeting.  However, it is always better to attend.  If you have any complaints about the contents of this bulletin...
