ANNOUNCEMENTS
• Kurn Hattin Christmas Project is scheduled for 12/12. Members have bought presents for 39 kids + donated money for a pizza party. Contact President Deb for more info.
• This year's holiday party has been cancelled due to a low number of members participating.
• The 2025 Rotary International Convention will take place in Calgary, Canada from June 21-25. For more info, click here.
• The club has received a number of thank you notes for donations made
Trex Plastics Challenge Update
The Springfield Rotary Club collected 333 pounds of plastic film towards our goal of 1000 pounds of plastic film for the tenth recycled bench that will be given to Elm Hill School. To date, 7,477 pounds of plastic film (over 3.7 tons!) have been removed from the waste stream since we started this project in February of 2023, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling. Please continue to bring your plastic film to the Springfield Town Library.

President Deb welcomed all to the Dec. 3, 2024 club meeting held at our new location, Springfield Area Parent Child Training Center. For the thought of the day, she offered this quote by Jim Rohn: "Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going."
BOWL OF LIFE: (members put three things about themselves on paper and place into a bowl and then we try to identify the member)
This member's clue was: "Played rugby in college" — No one fessed up so we will have to set this up another time.
HAPPY EVENTS:
Deb: Family dinner for Thanksgiving.
Deb: German noodles the day after Thanksgiving
Alan: Had a nice family Thanksgiving despite the weather
Jeff: Lisa is set to go to Bogota for her Fulbright
Jeff: Spent Thanksgiving with family in Kentucky
Marty: Entire family got together for Thanksgiving
Marty: While getting ready for finals week, he was invited to teach his course "Storytelling through Media" again at CCV next semester.
Andrea: Despite having no power, she had a wonderful Thanksgiving
RAFFLE:
The weekly prize of $8 was won by Julie Merrill-Snide. The big raffle now grows to $53.
PROGRAM:
Michelle Johnson, president of the Springfield Area Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, talked about her newly formed organization. Foster parents, adoptive parents, and kinship caregivers play a critical role in protecting children, supporting families, and strengthening our community. SAFAPAVT works closely with the Springfield office of Department for Children and Families. There is a need for more foster parents. You can learn more by clicking here. The goal of SAFAPAVT is to empower, support, and unify foster and adoptive families. Funds raised provide resources to care for the children. To learn more about SAFAPAVT, email Michelle.
