Rotary weekly meeting

September 20, 2022
 CPCC

Chris Merrill, Parks and Recreation Director

Chris Merrill was the club speaker today.  He's a graduate of SHS; captain of SHS Football team.  Joined the military; returned home; attending college on the GI bill.  Happy to be back in town raising his family and working with his assistant, Adam Middleton.  Chris gave an overview of all the programs they offer kids from K-6th grade.  New programs being introduced and many future plans.  The open gym concept wasn't as productive as hoped so Chris reached out to juniors at SHS who may be going into the recreation field.  They can come up with programs for the open gym times and work with the younger kids.  The trails are displaying kiosks and maps; a 9 hole disc golf tourny is being worked on.  A winter carnival at CPCC as well as a possible summer carnival are in the works.  The rec programs are utilized by about 220 kids or 1/3 of the population.  Chris is fired up and eager to keep the programs growing.  Volunteers for coaching are always needed!
